Bucks County Residents Support Cancer Research
Local Spa Raises $2,000 for Hope Cuts
DOYLESTOWN, PA-November 7th, Sunday.Bucks County residents turned out in droves for Annodam Aveda Day Spa & Salon's annual Hope Cuts charity event. All of the proceeds were donated to City of Hope, a research, treatment and educational institution in California that works to cure HIV/AIDS, breast cancer and pediatric diseases. "This is a terrific event," said co-owner Geri Rycharski, "In a cumulative sense, we know we're making a difference."
Spa-goers enjoyed services ranging from express haircuts and manicures to chair massage, stress-relieving treatments and foot soaks. Annodam, normally known for its mellow pace and calm atmosphere, turned it up a notch for this high-speed event that included dozens of shortened services. A new "sugarplum" (cinnamon-sandalwood) hand treatment was given at the door and breakfast was set out in the quiet room.
Annodam client Karen Tiedeken offered, "This salon has emotional quotient," another way of saying emotional intelligence. With values being so important in the last election according to exit polls, it seems apparent that consumers want to support businesses that share their values. Charity events like Hope Cuts make that link. Spas are becoming almost like the town coffee shop where people meet to share experiences and hear new opinions.
Hope Cuts participant Erin Barnes said, "Great services, relaxing atmosphere, what more could you ask for?" Ann Lyons joked with her sister Eileen Smith, saying, "Geri did such a good foot massage on Eileen that she's been talking about it for two years!" The Hope Cuts model demonstrates that raising money for a good cause doesn't have to involve mail or phone solicitation. "People want to help those in need," said co-owner Karen Lafferty, "we just need businesses that will create a forum that encourages volunteering, philanthropy and connectedness."
City of Hope helped pioneer treatments ranging from T-cell therapy to bone marrow transplantation. Hope Cuts is held nationwide; for more information see
